We Pray for Kenya, where climate change is killing twenty-times more elephants than poaching. Droughts are leading to severe water loss, killing elephants and endangering pregnancies and newborns. God, we confess the ways that human-induced climate change threatens the life of your creation. We pray for decisive action to change the future for this species.
We give thanks for faith groups taking action for climate justice. The Lambeth Conference saw the launch of the Anglican Communion Forest, a new initiative which will see churches across the globe taking part in forest protection and eco-system restoration. God, we celebrate that your Church is embracing our role as carers of creation, and pray that we would go further to seek climate justice.
We giveThanks for the way England winning Euro 2022 has broken down barriers to enable more women to take part in sports. God, we give thanks for progress to ensure that all women and girls can feel empowered to use their gifts and skills in sports. We pray for initiatives which support women and girls engaging in sports, that in the coming years we will see the legacy of this tournament continue.
We pray for the impact of misinformation on refugees. World Vision have warned about the impact of anti-refugee tensions on Ukrainians around the world, as exaggerated figures about support for refugees lead to breakdowns in relationship between locals and refugee communities. God, we pray for honest information to be shared, and for compassion and solidarity amongst communities, especially in times of extreme need.
We pray for people impacted by wildfires in Northern California. Over 2000 people have been evacuated and four have died as fires continue. God, we lament the tragic impact of climate induced disasters. We pray for safety for communities and a swift end to the fires.
We pray for cooperation between the major powers, after tensions rise between China and the US. God, we pray that governments might seek the path of cooperation and understanding, and avoid an escalation of tension. May all of your people live in peace and safety.
We pray for the impact of plastic pollution on wildlife. Birds from every continent have been pictured entangled or nesting in rubbish. God, we pray that we would work harder to become less dependent on plastic, and that we would make choices which prioritise the flourishing of your creation.
