Preparation in each home: there will be time for personal prayer reflection. If you would like to write down your prayers, have a piece of paper and pen at hand. We will be placing our prayers 'at the foot of the cross'.
Order of Service
Reminders to keep our Zoom service running smoothly:
- Please keep your microphone muted unless you are speaking.
- When we sing and pray together, we will hear one voice, and the others will be muted.
- Remember to look at your chat box for words to responsive readings.
- If the technology is compromised for any reason or goes totally wonky, we will end the on-line service immediately. If that should happen, we’ll try to restart as soon as possible, sending out an email to notify you.
One: We enter the Good Friday story, to taste bitterness turned to release,
All: We touch rough planks turned to smooth linen.
One: We smell violence turned to the blossoms of peace.
All: We hear deafening silence turned to a solemn stillness.
One: We see truth as holy imprints left on our hearts.
All: Holy One, you understand our numb senses and prickly fear.
One: Transform our sin into awareness, and our fear into hope.
Hymn Good Friday People by Peter Pay
Good Friday people hide away in fear;
tried, denied, convicted, Jesus’ fate is clear!
Nailed and left to die upon that bloodied tree,
God’s own sacrifice, made for you and me.
We are God’s people; opened is heaven’s door!
Sing we now his praises; serve him evermore.
A period of silent prayer will follow each reading. You might like to jot down any prayers you have to ‘place them at the foot of the cross’ later in the service.
Reading 1: Psalm 22:1-4 - Joan
Reading 2: John 18:4-5, 10-11 - Abel
Reading 3: John 19:1-3,6a - John C
Reading 4: John 19:16-19 and Luke 23:34, 43 - Godlove, Ashley & Ryan
Oh! Sometimes it causes me
to tremble, tremble, tremble.
they nailed him to the tree?
they nailed him to the tree?
Oh! Sometimes it causes me
to tremble, tremble, tremble.
they nailed him to the tree?
they laid him in the tomb?
they laid him in the tomb?
Oh! Sometimes it causes me
to tremble, tremble, tremble.
they laid him in the tomb?
Reading 5: John 19:25-27 - Peter P
Reading 6: John 19:28-30 - Haines
One: We bring to the cross
All: our prayers for ourselves and the world.
One: We bring to the cross
All: our fears, our hopes, our dreams.
One: We bring to the cross
All: our weaknesses and our strengths.
One: At the cross, fear and hope converge
All: illuminating the darkness with the light of love.
We invite you to keep the prayers you’ve written, knowing God hears and holds our prayers.
