Walking through Holy Week

A Psalm a day: Psalm 11
I do not believe God brings bad things upon anyone; God does not 'test' us by putting us through an obstacle course, or putting a deadly virus into our lives. But I do believe bad things happen to both the righteous and the wicked. And I do believe that the 'test' is our response to any given situation.
- Are we standing firm in our faith?
- Are we finding ways to help others?
- Or are we, as the prayer above suggests, having a pandemic pity party?
We all have the option to pass God's 'exam' today.
Every Thursday at 20:00 clap hands and raise the cry of 'Alleluia! Thank you!' to NHS workers and others keeping our communities going.

Pity-Party in a Pandemic
by Maren Tirabassi
God, hear our whining: Some of us are really disappointed that we had to cancel a trip or annoyed at a quarantine birthday.
Some of us had [theatre] tickets, were going to [play by the seaside], had amazing [holiday] plans, or wanted to savour special moments at the end of [a school] year.
Some of us are really, really lonely, (but nothing help-worthy is wrong) and some of us could really, really... use some time away from our [children].
We are cranky and disappointed.
But we cannot really say so -- when people are grieving or ill, losing their employment, working tirelessly in medical facilities, responding to crises, creating vaccines, making decisions for cities or schools, businesses, entertainment venues, churches or whole countries.
We should be praying in intercession for all the important things, not holding tight to the last box of wipes and frozen pizza for our petty pity-party.
But you have always called our whining -- psalms. You let us pound the small fists of our frustration against your strong and gentle love, not pushing us to "amen" until we've finished everything we need to let go.
