Gathering for Worship at 10:30

Remember to set your clock forward in the morning.
We're meeting at 10:30 on the new time!
29 March 2020
Fifth Sunday in Lent
Andover, Broad Chalke, and Salisbury congregations united in worship

Order of Worship

Welcome. As you join our time of worship, Peter Eve will be playing music and all participants will be muted. You may ‘chat’ to one another as you gather.

Please remain ‘muted’ unless you are speaking. When we sing and pray together, we will hear one voice, and the others will be muted. But feel free to sing as loud as you like at home. There’s a time-lag that creates chaos if we all try to sing or talk together.

Scripture & gathering words

Gathering Prayer & the Lord’s Prayer

Scripture Psalm 130
Out of the depths I cry to you, O God.
Eternal One, hear my voice!
Let your ears be attentive
to the voice of my supplications!
If you, O God, should mark iniquities,
Lord, who could stand?
But there is forgiveness with you,
so that you may be revered.
I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,
and in God’s word I hope;
my soul waits for the Lord
more than those who watch for the morning,
more than those who watch for the morning.
O Israel, hope in the Lord!
For with God there is steadfast love,
and with God is great power to redeem.
It is God who will redeem Israel
from all its iniquities.

Hymn Rejoice & Sing 48

Praise and thanksgiving,
Father, we offer,
For all things living
You have made good;
Harvest of sown fields,
Fruits of the orchard,
Hay from the mown fields,
blossom and wood.

Lord, bless the labour
We bring to serve you,
That with our neighbour
we may be fed.
Sowing or tilling,
We would work with you;
Harvesting, milling,
For daily bread.

Father, providing
Food for your children,
Your wisdom guiding
Teaches us share
One with another,
So that, rejoicing
With us, our brother
May know your care.

Then will your blessing
Reach every people;
Each one confessing
Your gracious hand.
When you are reigning
No one will hunger:
Your love sustaining
Fruitful the land.

Sharing Time Rainbows of gratitude

Dedication of our offerings

Scripture Mark 4:35-41 Jesus stills a storm
On that day, when evening had come, Jesus said to them, ‘Let us go across to the other side.’ And leaving the crowd behind, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. Other boats were with him.

A great gale arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that the boat was already being swamped. But Jesus was in the stern, asleep on the cushion.

And they woke Jesus up and said to him, ‘Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?’

Jesus woke up and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, ‘Peace! Be still!’ Then the wind ceased, and there was a dead calm.

Jesus said to them, ‘Why are you afraid? Have you still no faith?’ And they were filled with great awe and said to one another, ‘Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey?’
Here ends the reading. May God bless our hearing with understanding.

Sermon Seeking stillness, deepening spirituality and connecting community

Hymn Rejoice & Sing 347

Be still and know that I am God.
And there is none beside me
Be still and know that I am God.
And there is none beside me

I am the Lord that healeth thee
And there is none beside me
I am the Lord that healeth thee
And there is none beside me

In thee, O Lord, I put my trust.
And there is none beside thee
In thee, O Lord, I put my trust.
And there is none beside thee

Prayers for our world
Healing God, we put our trust in you.

Closing Hymn Rejoice & Sing 95
God is Love, let heav'n adore him.
God is Love, let earth rejoice.
Let creation sing before him,
and exalt him with one voice.
He who laid the earth's foundation,
he who spread the heav'ns above,
he who breathes through all creation,
he is Love, eternal Love.

God is Love: and he enfoldeth
all the world in one embrace;
with unfailing grasp he holdeth
every child of every race.
And when human hearts are breaking
under sorrow's iron rod,
then they find that selfsame aching
deep within the heart of God.

God is Love: and though with blindness
sin afflicts the souls of all,
God's eternal loving-kindness
holds and guides us when we fall.
Sin and death and hell shall never
o'er us final triumph gain;
God is Love, so Love for ever
o'er the universe must reign.
