Music
What music groups are doing on line is amazing! This is the Rotterdam Philharmonic performing a rousing version of 'Joyful joyful we adore thee' which happens to be the music to which Tod and I processed at our wedding.

Enjoy a favourite hymn of Joan's, 'O God, You search Me and You Know Me', based on Psalm 139. The text and music are written by Bernadette Farrell one of the founders of Citizens UK.

A Psalm a day: Psalm 17
'Hear a just cause, O Lord;
Sometimes the world is just not fair. Good things happen to bad people. Bad things happen to good people. Corona is not making judgements but taking the good and the bad, the faithful and the unfaithful, the good and the wicked.
Sometimes, especially when I feel unfairly wronged, I wish bad things upon my enemies -- smite them, Lord! And I'm sure sometimes my enemies wish some sort of smiting upon me.
I know Jesus says even thinking bad thoughts is a sin, but I beg to differ. For me, the thinking, the wishing can prove to be the precursor of sinful action, but it need not be carried to fruition. That's where constant prayer is so important, to allow God to help us see the path ahead and to offer us the choice of diverting away from sin to reconciliation, away from vengence to peace and even love.
'When I awake I shall be satisfied, beholding your likeness.' (15)
Isn't that really our goal as faithful followers of Jesus, to awaken already satisfied, not wishing for vengeance of vindication, but satisfied -- at peace, at one with the world? To awaken with our mind's eye beholding God -- the God that bids us put down our swords, release our vengeful desires, and awaken into a new dawn.
God, relieve us of any thoughts that might lead us down the road of sin. Awaken us into a new dawn with our eyes full on you. Amen.
