Music

Here's a delightful recording of 'We've got the whole world in our hands,' a good Earth Day reminder of our responsibilities as stewards of God's amazing creation. Thanks Eric for the link.

A Psalm a day: Psalm 15

Psalm 15:1-2
Q: Eternal One, ...who may dwell on your holy hill?
A: Those who walk blamelessly, and do what is right.

How do we know what is right? What route leads, like this stairway at Salisbury Cathedral, to God's holy hill?

Many years ago I was taught to pray by asking God, 'What's the next right thing for me to do/say/think/not do?' We can't know 'the right thing' for sure, but Psalm 15 offers a good check-off-list of choices that are NOT the 'right thing' to do.

Today, we can pause and turn to God asking for guidance, clarity and assurance as we choose our behaviours and actions. As we consider that today is Earth Day, we can ask some bigger questions about our lives, our habits, our practices -- are they 'right' for the Earth? Are they adding to God's creation or selfishly taking away from it? What might we change to align ourselves closer to this 'right' path set before us as faithful followers of Christ?

Pray with me.
Thank you for this earth and our place on it. Open our hearts to be thoughtful stewards and caring custodians. Align our thoughts with your will. Amen.

Mary Oliver on prayer

A prayer from Gloria

Great God, forgive us for the many times that we rely on our short- lived strength. Help us see that all good gifts come from you, and that you are the never-failing source of our strength, hope, and joy.
When we draw near to God, our minds are refreshed and our strength is renewed.
