A Psalm a day: Psalm 16

Psalm 16:11
'In your presence there is fullness of joy.'

Part of this COVID-19 reality is the knowledge that I might never see my loved ones again. One of my granddaughters or my children might become ill and die alone, far away from me. Or I might become ill and die away from Tod alone in Odstock Hospital.

Why then have I been filled with a sense of joy? Why has my cup seemed overflowing with goodness and mercy?

I learned long ago that joy is different from happiness. That joy is something that comes from faith and trust and from which we cannot be separated even in the darkest times. Joy sees the beauty in the midst of desolation, and I thank Fiona and Leslie for regularly putting photos of their daily-beauty-sightings into my in-box. Joy sees both the intricate details and the broad brush strokes of God's presence...always.

Today, I invite you to find beauty and joy around you. To start with your faith, trusting that God is present. Then seeing that evidence. And joyously celebrating the divine in the midst of this strange and frightening time.

Pray with me.
Joyful God, may we open our hearts to the fullness of joy you offer when we trust in you. Amen.

Gardening God's Way

Shared by Leslie

Plant three rows of peas:
Peace of mind
Peace of heart
Peace of soul
Plant four rows of squash:
Squash gossip
Squash indifference
Squash grumbling
Squash selfishness
Plant four rows of lettuce:
Lettuce be faithful
Lettuce be kind
Lettuce be obedient
Lettuce really love one another
No garden without turnips:
Turnip for meetings
Turnip for service
Turnip to help one another

Water freely with patience and cultivate love. There is much fruit for your garden Because you reap what you sow.

To conclude our garden
We must have thyme:
Thyme for God
Thyme for study
Thyme for prayer
Thyme for each other
Thyme for friends
