Psalm 86

A rendition for today by Duncan Wilson of the URC

Teach me your way, Lord
and I will follow it faithfully.
Encourage me to serve you with all my heart.
With all that is within me, I will praise you
and everywhere I will speak of your goodness.
How can I measure your love?
You give me back my life, nothing less.
Still, there are those who seek only to make mischief
and have regard only for themselves.
But you are loving and merciful;
patient, gentle and loyal without fail.

So look upon me and be generous towards my faults;
lift me up and make me strong,
for I would serve you just as my mother did.
Make plain your goodness towards me
so that when they see how you help and protect me
my adversaries will hide their faces in shame.

Prayer for this day
adapted from New Zealand

God of the present moment
God who in Jesus still the storm and soothes the frantic heart
Bring hope and courage to all who wait or work in uncertainty
Bring Hope that you will make us all equal to whatever lies ahead
Bring us courage to endure what cannot be avoided
For your will is health and wholeness
You are God and we need you.
Amen.
