Spreading Love & Hope...

Welcome to this week's devotion. These resources have been gathered for your use at home during these days of physical social distancing and virtual social connection. May this devotion and the links provided help you stay connected to God and the wider community.

If you have items to share -- a prayer, song, Bible verse, reflection, photo, link -- please send it, so we can share them with everyone. I'll be including submissions from our church calendar photo competition - you'll have to search out the photographers!

Please share these devotions with friends.
Blessings & peace, Ana & Tod

Leisure

from 'Songs of Joy' by W.H.Davies

This is one of Joy Smith's favourite poems, often quoted when looking across the beauty of a Wiltshire or Devon landscape.

What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare
No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.
No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.
No time to turn at Beauty’s glance
And watch her feet, how they can dance.
No time to wait 'til her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.
A poor life this, if full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

66. Salisbury URC in the Heart of the Community
'At this unique and challenging time in the United Kingdom over 65 churches and movements, representing hundreds of others, have come together online to sing a blessing over our land. Standing together as one, our desire is that this song will fill you with hope and encourage you.

'But the church is not simply singing a blessing, each day we're looking to practically be a blessing. Many of the churches included in this song have assisted with supplying over 400,000 meals to the most vulnerable and isolated in our nation since COVID-19 lockdown began. This alongside phone calls to the isolated, pharmacy delivery drops and hot meals to the NHS frontline hospital staff.

'Our buildings may be closed but the church is very much alive!'

The Lord bless you
And keep you
Make His face shine upon you
And be gracious to you
The Lord turn His
Face toward you
And give you peace
As we receive, we agree, amen
Chorus —
Amen, amen, amen
Bridge —
May His favor be upon you
And a thousand generations
And your family and your children
And their children, and their children
May His presence go before you
And behind you, and beside you
All around you, and within you
He is with you, He is with you

Robert Bradley was filmed in Los Angeles singing in front of a Playing For Change graffiti wall painted by a local artist. Enjoy!

Julian Bream playing

Concierto de Aranjuez

by Joaquin Rodrigo, part 2

Leslie writes: Thank you for the ongoing lovely selection of music in your Devotions.
Can I suggest something by the classical guitarist Julian Bream who died very recently. He lived in Wiltshire, latterly at Donhead St Andrew. Years ago Edward and I heard him play in the chapel of New Wardour Castle. I found a recording on Youtube made 11 years ago.
