Spreading Love & Hope...

Welcome to this week's devotion. These resources have been gathered for your use at home during these days of physical social distancing and virtual social connection. May this devotion and the links provided help you stay connected to God and the wider community.

If you have items to share -- a prayer, song, Bible verse, reflection, photo, link -- please send it, so we can share them with everyone. Thanks to Rose for the pastoral picture of the cow on the hillcrest at Figbury Rings (another submission in the church calendar competition).

Please share these devotions with friends.
Blessings & peace, Ana & Tod

Walking together:

Suggestions for positive accompaniment

How can we accompany one another pastorally through this Covid-19 valley of anxiety, fear, and death? Eileen R. Campbell-Reed, writing in Christian Century, suggests ten guidelines:
  • Monitor and follow the health guidelines.
  • Be a non-anxious presence.
  • Show up for people, just not in person. Appear on screens even if you aren't comfortable -- it's a gift to those who see you.
  • Listen in love.
  • Find ways to make community, to pull together and support each other.
  • Help people take the long view. Remember that God’s loving presence was here before the universe itself, and it will be here long after the universe has passed away.
  • Keep values alive -- keep leaning into God’s sustaining presence, loving our neighbours, and facing death with the same purpose and values by which we faced life.
  • Don’t be afraid to talk about death.
  • Take care of yourself. Self-care is not selfish; it's essential. Lean into your own community -- neighbours, church, family, friends, medical -- for support. As this new world continues to unfold, take steps to renew your own energy and hope in the Spirit of God.

Bible Study: moving into gratitude

'How great are your works, Eternal One.'
-- Psalm 92:5
See
Sit in a comfortable position with your Bible nearby. You might light a candle.
Open to Psalm 92 and read it slowly.

Judge
Consider the meanings of the words and the feelings they arouse in you. What is God saying to you through this psalm? What are you thankful for today?

Act
Choose at least one action to undertake today to demonstrate your gratitude.
