Thursday Prayer Power 20:00

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.’
–Psalm 46.1

Here’s a suggestion of one way to put our covenant of discipleship into action.

Thursdays at 8.00 pm we are all invited to express our gratitude to the National Health Service and all key workers.
Evenings are dark and cold this time of the year.
While some of us may brave the dark and cold to clap outside, other may wish an alternative manner by which to show their gratitude.

Why not take this time each week to join together in prayer?   Inside and outside!

And light a candle (or hold an electronic one).

Who knows what 5 minutes of concentrated prayer might achieve?

Pass the word so that our prayers fill our neighbourhoods, our villages, towns and cities, and spread around our island and across the seas, around the globe!

We might use our own prayerful words or use the ancient words of Psalm 46.

Psalm 46 v. 1 – 7, 10-11  NRSV

God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change,
though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;
though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble with its tumult.
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy habitation of the Most High.
God is in the midst of the city; it shall not be moved;
God will help it when the morning dawns.
The nations are in an uproar, the kingdoms totter;
he utters his voice, the earth melts.
The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our refuge.

‘Be still, and know that I am God!
I am exalted among the nations,
I am exalted in the earth.’
The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our refuge.
