Scripture & Gathering    Isaiah 51:1-6 (Good News Bible)   Chris & Ted Haines

Opening Hymn    SP 109 Fill your hearts with joy and gladness – Timothy Dudley-Smith ©1970 T. Dudley-Smith, music © 1982 John Barnard – The Jubilate Group CCL 4739070

1

Fill your hearts with joy and gladness,

Sing and praise your God and mine!

Great the Lord in love and wisdom,

Might and majesty divine!

He who framed the starry heavens

Knows and names them as they shine.

2

Praise the Lord, his people, praise him!

Wounded souls his comfort know;

Those who fear him find his mercies,

Peace for pain and joy for woe;

Humble hearts are high exalted,

Human pride and power laid low.

3

Praise the Lord for times and seasons,

Cloud and sunshine, wind and rain;

Spring to melt the snows of winter

Till the waters flow again;

Grass upon the mountain pastures,

Golden valleys thick with grain.

4

Fill your hearts with joy and gladness,

Peace and plenty crown your days;

Love his laws, declare his judgements,

Walk in all his words and ways;

He the Lord and we his children:

Praise the Lord, all people, praise!

Hymn   RS 598 Will your anchor hold? – P.J. Owens © Public Domain CCL 47031

1

Will your anchor hold in the storms of life

When the clouds unfold their wings of strife?

When the strong tides lift, and the cables strain,

Will your anchor drift, or firm remain?

We have an anchor that keeps the soul

Steadfast and sure while the billows roll;

Fastened to the Rock which cannot move,

Grounded firm and deep in the Saviour’s love!

2

Will your anchor hold in the straits of fear,

When the breakers roar and the reef is near?

While the surges rave, and the wild winds blow,

Shall the angry waves your boat o’oerflow?

We have an anchor that keeps the soul

Steadfast and sure while the billows roll;

Fastened to the Rock which cannot move,

Grounded firm and deep in the Saviour’s love!

3

Will your anchor hold in the floods of death,

When the waters cold chill your latest breath?

On the rising tide you can never fail;

While your anchor holds you will still prevail.

We have an anchor that keeps the soul

Steadfast and sure while the billows roll;

Fastened to the Rock which cannot move,

Grounded firm and deep in the Saviour’s love!

4

Will your eyes behold through the morning light

The city of gold and the harbour bright?

Will you anchor safe by the heavenly shore,

When life’s storms are past for evermore?

We have an anchor that keeps the soul

Steadfast and sure while the billows roll;

Fastened to the Rock which cannot move,

Grounded firm and deep in the Saviour’s love!

Closing Hymn     SP 267 Christ triumphant – Michael Saward © 1964 M. Saward – The Jubilate Group, music© 1982 John Barnard – The Jubilate Group CCL 647778

1

Christ triumphant, ever reigning,

Saviour, Master, King!

Lord of heaven, our lives sustaining,

Hear us as we sing:

Yours the glory and the crown,

The high renown, the eternal name.

2

Word incarnate, truth revealing,

Son of Man on earth!

Power and majesty concealing

By your humble birth:

Yours the glory and the crown,

The high renown, the eternal name

3

Suffering servant, scorned, ill-treated,

Victim crucified!

Death is through the cross defeated,

Sinners justified:

Yours the glory and the crown,

The high renown, the eternal name

4

Priestly King, enthroned forever

High in heaven above!

Sin and death and hell shall never

Stifle hymns of love:

Yours the glory and the crown,

The high renown, the eternal name

5

So, our hearts and voices raising

Through the ages long,

Ceaselessly upon you gazing,

This shall be our song:

Yours the glory and the crown,

The high renown, the eternal name

Sending Forth & the Grace

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all now and forever.  Amen.
