Eco-Church update – Salisbury Cathedral strikes gold!

Salisbury Cathedral is the first UK Cathedral to achieve an Eco Church Gold Award

Salisbury is the first cathedral to gain a Gold Eco Church Award for its efforts to address the climate and nature-loss crises. The Cathedral’s award was the result of work done by the Cathedral’s eco-army of bat and bird box builders, peregrine champions, moth and wildlife surveyors and plant recorders – staff and volunteers alike.

Helen Stephens, Head of the Eco Church programme, says “Nearing COP26, this is an exciting milestone to be reached. Without the team at Salisbury Cathedral’s determination and dedication during the last three challenging years this wouldn’t have been possible. Everything from how the Cathedral worships and the food it serves, to the energy it uses, the wildlife that lives in and around the Close, and even the water that flushes from the loos has been taken into consideration to put climate and conservation at the heart of the cathedral’s community.”
