Daily Prayers for our World

We pray for under-18s missing out on treatment for drug and alcohol dependency. Data shows that the number able to get help has fallen to its lowest on record owing to Covid, staff shortages and funding cuts. God, we pray for these children, loved by you and bearing your image. We pray that all would receive the support they need.

We give thanks for activists like Kwajo Tweneboa, a student who spends his free time helping social housing tenants living in poor conditions. God, we thank you for Kwajo’s tireless work and advocacy for those who are struggling and ignored. We pray that he, and others, would be enabled to be ever more effective in fighting for justice.

This Racial Justice Sunday, we give thanks for the vision of unity in diversity found in the Bible. We ask for forgiveness for all of the ways that we have fallen short of this vision through the sin of racism. God, we thank you for the beauty and richness of racial diversity. We pray that we would draw closer to each other and to your heart of love as we work to end racial injustice.

We pray for Madagascar in the aftermath of Cyclone Batsirai. This was the second cyclone in two weeks for a country already struggling with food shortages and severe drought. God, we think of those who have lost homes and loved ones, and those without food. We pray for success in the efforts of relief and rebuilding.

We pray for the long-term recovery of health services in the UK. Modelling shows that hospital waiting lists in England may exceed 10 million by 2024. God, we pray that solutions would be found to reduce the backlog of patients, so that no one would have to wait too long for medical care.

We pray for the renewal of democracy and good governance worldwide. An annual democracy index has seen the sharpest decline in its average global score since 2010. God, we pray for the transformation of systems and governments where they have become corrupted and unjust. May all governments work for the good of their citizens.

We pray for an end to anti-Semitic abuse. The Community Security Trust recorded a record number of anti-Semitic incidents in the UK last year, up by 34% from 2020. God, we pray for an end to all forms of racism and abuse, including anti-Semitism. Help us build a society that is welcoming to all.
