Daily Prayers for our World

We pray for the preservation of bees. Declining bee populations exposed to pesticides may require generations to recover, which will have a significant detrimental effect on entire ecosystems and on humans. God, we pray for appropriate policy and practice in farming that considers environmental impact

We pray for children in care and care leavers, who disproportionately spend time homeless or in prison after leaving care. This trend is blamed on a lack of protection and an attitude that they are a problem to be dealt with. God, we pray that all vulnerable children would be properly looked after, loved, and protected from all forms of exploitation.

We give thanks for record numbers of grey seals on the Farne Islands. Conservation efforts have seen the colony grow year-on-year over the last decade. God, we thank you for the success of this project. May the UK be a place of increasingly abundant wildlife and biodiversity.

We give thanks for empty department stores being turned into community hubs. Social enterprises and community groups have worked in tandem with local authorities to ensure that these spaces serve the needs of their area. God, we thank you for this creative use of empty buildings, and pray that they would be a blessing to their communities.

We pray for the world’s response to the Omicron variant of COVID-19. While its strength is still unknown, it is spreading rapidly, and is now the dominant variant in South Africa. We pray that the most vulnerable would be protected, and for the success of all officials, scientists, and medics fighting this variant.

We pray for the 183 million people worldwide caught up in conflict and poverty that will be supported by the UN’s annual appeal. Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen, Ethiopia and Sudan are the five major crises requiring the most funding. God, we remember those most in need in this world. We pray for the day when suffering and want will be no more.

We pray for young people at risk of and currently experiencing homelessness. Centrepoint predicts over 29,000 18-24-year-olds face being homeless this year, a five-year high. God, we pray protection and provision for those out in the cold this winter. Help us build a compassionate society and economy in which no one would go without shelter, warmth, and food.
