15 May Order of Worship
To mark the beginning of Christian Aid Week 15-21 May
And Nakba Day 15 May
Church Notices
- Church Meeting today directly following the service to consider those being nominated for Lay Presidency, for a 3-year term: Joan Smith & Peter White
- Prayers for Peace this afternoon here at 3:00, for Ukraine and Palestine. (Next week they are at St Thomas’s Church.)
- Today, the 15th of May, is Nakba Day, the Day of the Catastrophe, which commemorates the displacement of Palestinians that preceded and followed the Israeli Declaration of Independence in 1948. An estimated 700,000 Palestinians fled or were expelled, and hundreds of Palestinian towns and villages were depopulated and destroyed. The key is a symbol of the Nakba, the Catastrophe, refering to the many Palestinians who still have keys to their homes from which they were expelled in 1948, expecting to return in a few days.
- 5 June we will mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee using the service prepared by Ana Gobledale for the URC.
