Angel Festival 2018

We had a ‘heavenly’ second annual Angel Festival  3-6 October!

With amazing portrayals of angels created by churches, schools and community groups, delicious refreshments and entertainment.

Open daily 10:00-1:00 and 2:00-5:00.  Several musical items will accompany the Festival Wednesday-Friday including local pianists Sarah Scutt (4pm Thurs & 3pm Fri), Ute Schwarting (10:30 am Fri) and Jemima Palfreyman (4pm Friday).

4:00  Jemima Palfreyman, a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music, recently settled into the post of resident accompanist at the Godolphin School . Recent performance venues include the Bridgewater Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall and St Martin-in-the-Fields, with repertoire including Beethoven’s 3rd Piano Concerto and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue.

7:00 – 9:00  Flower Arranging Demonstration: Angel-theme flower arrangement demonstration featuring Chelsea Gold medalist, Graham Harmer.  Seven flower arrangements will be raffled. The evening starts with Sarah Scutts on the piano and will include dramatic readings.  Tickets available £10 from [email protected].

Graham Harmer is an accomplished flower arranger/demonstrator and florist. He is a keen competitor and has designed and participated in numerous flower festivals which have raised thousands of pounds for charity. He is a Chelsea Flower Show gold medallist several times over.  Graham regularly does the flowers for Southwark Cathedral.

June Ford is also a flower arranger/competitor, and for over 40 years has arranged flowers for her church. She is a NAFAS National Speaker and has given presentations around the country, as well as winning many public speaking competitions.

Both Graham and June are members of the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies and have arranged flowers in Westminster Abbey, St. James and Kensington Palaces, and many stately homes.

10:00 – 12:00 am —  Children’s activities 

2:00pm — Flower Arranging Workshop:  Angel-theme flower arrangement workshop with Chelsea Gold medalist, Graham Harmer. £20 tickets — limited to 20 participants.  A guided activity for all abilities. Beginners are most welcome. Whatever your previous experience, you take home a beautiful Angel flower arrangement you have created. Tickets available from [email protected]

This year’s Angel Festival will feature two famous flower arrangers who will be giving demonstrations and a master class in flower arranging.

The demonstration will be on Friday 5th October at 7.30 p.m  — tickets are £10.

The master class takes place at the URC on Saturday 6th October at 2.00 p.m.  –tickets are £20.

Graham Harmer is on the Flower Arranging team for Southwark Cathedral. He is a Chelsea Flower Show Gold medallist several times over. An Area Associate of Honour of the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies (NAFAS), Graham has arranged flowers at Kensington Palace, St James Palace and Mansion House. Graham started arranging at 16 years and is now an accomplished flower arrangement demonstrator.

June Ford is active in the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies (NAFAS). Primary Flower Arranger at St Andrew’s United Reformed Church in Brockley, London, June has participated by invitation in numerous Flower Shows at cathedrals and royal residences throughout the country. She has been involved in NAFAS leadership for many years.
